An address on your own domain does not win clients. It stops you losing a few, and it stops you building your business on an account you do not own — because the domain is yours, and if you ever change provider your addresses follow.
The order matters
- Connect your domain first. Mailboxes live on a domain; there is nothing to request before that.
- Turn on the Professional email add-on — 4 CHF per month.
- Choose the mailbox name and send the request.
firstname@yourdomain.chis the safe choice;contact@works too and survives a change of person.
What happens next
A person reads the request and creates the mailbox, usually within one working day. It is not instant, and that is deliberate: the mail records added to your domain are the ones that decide whether your messages arrive or land in spam, and they are worth a pair of eyes.
When it is ready, a Reveal credentials button appears on this screen. It shows the password once. Sign in with it, set your own password immediately, and the temporary one stops existing.
Reading and sending
The Webmail link next to each mailbox opens it in the browser. The same address can be added to the mail app you already use on your phone and your computer — both work at the same time.
Use it from the first day
An address created and never used is worse than none: the first message a client receives from it arrives months later, from an unfamiliar sender, and goes to spam. Send your quotes from it immediately, and put it on your site.
Mail records and website records are independent. A site that works does not prove that mail does — after connecting a domain, send yourself a message from an outside address before you print the new one anywhere.
